Enjoying a resurgence of popularity, the Rock Inne has been filled to capacity recently with a salute to AC/DC on the Australia Day weekend by Hells Bells.
"The most common comment on the night was ‘wow, its' just like the good old days', said Hells Bells' guitarist and manager Mal Osborne. "It was such a reunion for a lot of people who used to come to the tavern in the 90's and it was equally great to see so many younger music lovers having such a good time" said Osborne who also used to play there in popular heavy rock band Intensely Mellow in the late 90s. "We did something like 60 or 70 gigs there before disbanding and regrouping as a 9 piece psychedelic rock orchestra, the B-movie Heroes.
"The music has changed, we lost a couple of members but at the same time got our good mate Matt Giovinanzo back on the drum stool and with the soaring distinct vocals of Rhys Watson created a (swamp) monster"
B Movie Heroes is one of those bands that has a relaxed attitude towards music. Having been around long enough to know that enjoyment of playing music together is the most important thing, the band of long time mates has knocked up more than 400 shows in their time together since 2001.
"We prefer to jam on stage and let the vibe take its own life, complete with highs and lows. We play psychedelic swamp rock blues with up to seven members using acoustic and electric guitars, Rhodes stage piano, a drummer and a percussionist so it's really important to leave aural space and that's where the enjoyment of playing together comes into it."
"Over the last 8 years we have recorded 3 full length CDs, four EPs, won 5 WAMi awards, even beating John Butler one year to take out the Blues & Roots award, played The Big Day Out, West Coast Blues Festivals, toured around Australia and shared the stage with many Perth bands now household names like Eskimo Joe, Little Birdie, John Butler and Birds Of Tokyo" said guitarist, Mal Osborne. "While those bands, and many more who should be household names too, have worked really hard to get where they are, we are just in it for the magic we create. We get together when we can - due to work commitments and member's side projects, to play special shows like this one for our fans and friends".
Joining B-Movie Heroes will be:
- Jason Euphoria Project - A passionate and ROCKIN' 3 piece from Perth, steeped in the blues with more than a hint of rock, stoner, funk, punk and food for the soul all with a sense of humour,
- Local young band Deputation, who's sound has been described as stoner rock, rock/pop and alternative. Each member brings different musical tastes and backgrounds which mingles together to create Deputations sound, from Sunshine's classic rock/alternative/folksy lyrics and guitar, to Stewie's prog/metal drumming, to Patches' metal and funk bass lines.
- Dam Few
- Mick Parker - with his earthy blend of bluesy home spun aussie yarns will be performing in the beer garden in between bands.
The night promises to be a fun filled event with a showcase of great original music and for only $10 entry should not be missed. Tickets are available from the venue until sold out.
