GETTING THE MOST OF EVERY DROP IN YOUR GARDEN: DRIP IRRIGATION

The cooler weather is a great time to get those jobs done that will make the summer garden survive better. Therefore, the May meeting of Roleystone Organic Growers will be all about drip irrigation and how to grow good healthy plants using less water.

Drip irrigation is a method of watering which saves on water use. It is an efficient and effective watering system that simply drips water through emitters either on or below the soil surface and delivers water directly to the roots of your plants, reducing evaporation and wind drift. Other benefits include reduced weed problems because water is targeted to the plants rather than surrounding areas, and reduced fungal diseases like black spot and powdery mildew that can be exacerbated by overhead watering. 

Our speaker, Robin Weaver from the Watershed has been working in the Irrigation industry for 23 years and is the former chairman of the Irrigation Association of Western Australia. He has written many of the Waterwise manuals for the Water Corporation, so needless to say he has a lot of knowledge!  

Robin will be explaining the benefits of drip irrigation and how to set up and maintain the system in the home garden. He will show and demonstrate all the components needed-valves, filters, pipes, joiners, connectors, back flow prevention device, and more. If you happen to use bore water he will show you the drip system for you.  

So, if you have been thinking of setting up or converting your current reticulation system to drippers, here is your opportunity to learn more.  

The meeting will be on Wed. May 12  @ 7:30pm at the Roleystone Family Centre in Wygonda Rd., Roleystone Cost is $3.
